Wudaokou Best-Kept secrets

A student like me with an adventurous heart and a big appetite (on certain a season like Winter!) had gone up and down in this lovable district called Wudaokou. It was my home away from home for a while with friends that shared memories with me at that time. We skipped from restaurant to restaurant, trying out things until we find the best around town.

I recall having a hard time returning for one-last-taste/visit during February when we were about to leave. I wanted to immortalize the experiences and when I come back, surely I would be nostalgic.

Here are the places I love:
1. Milk tea station- Though I forgot the name of the booth, I remember it’s along the front part of Hua Qing Jia Yuan. It’s located along the store strips. It’s not comparable to the powdered ones, this one tastes sooo much better!

2. Cafe Bro - It’s also along the store strips, right beside the Mcdonald’s. I like their pastas and also their crepe cake is to die for.

3. Lion King KTV- If you just want to sing the night away, this is the perfect place because of it’s wide array of song choices (English songs too!).

4. Korean restaurants - there are quite a lot. We love Sarangbang, Fushion, the “Kimchi rice” restaurant we didn’t get the name. I never get tired of eating there.

5. Tous Le Jour- It’s French for “everyday”. You would see this just below the Lion King KTV building. It’s actually a Korean company so I guess that why a lot of Koreans hang out there. I love their Cream Baguette. Seriously addicting! They also serve cakes, pastries.

6. SPR Coffee Hua Qing Jia Yuan branch- There are two SPR branches in Wudaokou and I think not all have this Hot Chocolate we tried in SPR Hua Qing Jia Yuan branch. It’s my favorite. I feel it’s Christmas while drinking this during the winter. The place is also so cozy I can stay there for a long time! Unfortunately, it closes early.

7. RBT Cafe- This cafe is located at the side near Propaganda bar. It has a cute interior with matching swing for couples who want to hang out. They also serve great milk teas and teas!

8. Muslim restaurant inside BLCU- It’s located beside the Cafeteria of BLCU. It’s interesting to try out the cuisine of Xin Jiang people who are typically Muslims. They have a whole different culture than the normal Chinese. A short facts about them:

Xinjiang is home to several Muslim Turkic groups including the Uyghurs, Uzbeks, Kyrgyz, Tatars and the Kazakhs, and a few Indo-European Iranic groups, such as the Tajiks and the Sarikolis/Wakhis (often mis-identified as Tajiks).

They serve lamb, muslim bread which is dipped in yogurt (yum!) etc.

9. Mochi balls - Ok..this is not just available in Wudaokou but I usually eat them in school! Cheap and yummy! Costing around 1-2rmb, you get two big mochi ball inside. The starchy cover evenly distribute the sweetness of the ice cream inside. A perfect cheap treat.

10. Higeyeoyagi - A MUST TRY is their SALMON PASTA. It’s my favorite that I missed to try since it went for a renovation when we were about to leave! It’s a hidden favorite inside the Korean Town (where Sarangbang is).

There are still a lot I haven’t discovered but these few are hopefully helpful to first time Wudaokou goers. Enjoy!

here’s a glimpse of Lotus Supermarket!

Hearing the names of all those places bring back good memories. Did you ever try LUSH or did you ever eat the Chocolate Fishie cookie? There was an old couple that cooked these pastries between BLCU campus and the hotel near the west gate… Feichang haochi… I’m heading back to Beijing for another semester abroad and I am definetly hitting up the Chocolate Fishie lady and the Muslim rest. :)

Loved HAPPY LEMON! It’s a drink stand located in UCenter’s ground floor. Try the roast milk tea with pearls, and the milk tea with puff pudding or something like that. DELICIOUS! :)

Also, go for Fruitime, located in front of Hua Qing Jia Yuan. Awesome strawberry yogurt drink.

Try HANMALU, a korean restaurant near Jixiang hotel. Great LA galbi beef!
