Upon news of snowfall for the winter season 2007 in Beijing, I began reminiscing my first snowfall in Beijing.

Snowfalls are incredibly rare in spite of common misconception of winter season for Beijing. Since the atmosphere is dry, the rain/snow are probably less than the usual compared to other countries. During my stay, I recall only around two times when it snowed hard. But the temperature would drop around -10 so suddenly. Yahoo widgets was my best friend during those times.

I can’t help but reminisce. Firsts are really memorable, the year 2006, Nov 25 was one of the best moments in my life. My first touch of the snow ever! It was surreal because I was awaken in the middle of my sleep. My friends were all yelling that I should wake up and see the first snowfall! As far as I remember, I was slacking because of the ungodly hour when that happened (3am).

Amidst the chilly temperature, my mind was on a high. I was happy, blissful, can-reach-nirvana type of feeling. I really saw that the snowflake shape is real ( I thought that it was to make winter more cute). My friends and I went on taking pictures and laughing heartily.

Take note of the pretty white sight you get the morning after the heavy snowfall…the surrounding will look like it’s been covered with white sparkling sheets of cotton. I was careful not to slide unto my buttocks but I love stepping on it to see the mold my feet can make.

Snow will always make me go back into being a child again. Throwing snowballs everywhere, making snow angels on a wide surface…

Just make sure you do that early morning, because when it is already in the afternoon, it will become a muddy snow sludge…

I also want to share the beautiful picture taken by my photographer friend Dan!

My last note:
thanks for the memories…

I have seen snow a million and one times, but it was on the morning of 10th Dec, 2007 that I experienced my first snow fall in Beijing. I must consider myself to be really lucky as my husband and I were departing for home, Malaysia the following day. We will definitely cherish that very moment, going out of our hotel to the gardens and have gentle snowflakes fall onto us.
