Korean BBQ- my top 5
July 11, 2007
One of my favorite restaurants are Korean BBQ places. I can’t resist the rice, sauce, BBQ altogether. That’s why I didn’t wonder why I got fat all the while. The hot coal grill is also a warm retreat versus the nasty cold during winter.

Typically, you need to choose different variety of raw meat (from lamb, karubi beef, harami beef, pork, chicken, squid, ribs). They serve appetizers first (actually a lot, I usually get a bit full with appetizers). If you love kimchi, you will love to eat in Korean restaurants. I get flushed out whenever I eat here, because of SPICY food and the hot coal grill.
There are a lot of Korean restaurants around Wudaokou area. My favorites are Fushion, Sarambang, Kimchi rice place (though I don’t think this is the name, we just named this cause of our favorite Kimchi rice), Korean restaurant in Xi Jiao Hotel.

They taught us how to eat the Korean BBQ traditionally. The reason why there are lots of sauces, vegetables, kimchi, lettuce is that you need to eat them altogether. First, get the lettuce, put rice, then all other vegetables you want, then the meat and sauces, roll it into a half a fist size and open wide!

My Top 5 Korean restaurants in BEIJING (all located in Wudaokou)
1. Xi Jiao hotel’s korean restaurant — The sauce is perfect, the meat available are all fresh and some marinade (for added flavor), the appetizers are different every time you go there plus they can cook for you!
2. Kimchi rice place along Wang Zhuang Lu– This one is near Pepper Bar, they have few variety of meats but their KIMCHI RICE is the best! They also serve the pork intestine for BBQ if you want to try.
3. Sarangbang– This is an old school Korean restaurant inside Korean Town at the end of Wang Zhuang Lu. The old branch has lots of graffiti on the wall. Unfortunately, no English menu. You need to know which ones to order (ask Korean friends or ask the best seller).
4. Fusion– They have the meat sets where it’s affordable and you get to get your money’s worth. Right sauces, right appetizers..perfect appetite. (near Jean’s West)
5. Mi chuan — This restaurant’s logo is a pig. You won’t miss this. They have almost all the meats plus squid. They have 2 branches in Wudaokou, one in Korean town, one near Tous Le Jous.

[...] SarangBang is one of my favorite Korean restaurants in Beijing. I first experience this quite authentic Korean cuisine during my trip with friends a year before I went to study in BLCU. The spicy food complimented the cold autumn weather. [...]
