Hua Qing Jia Yuan
July 2, 2007
Wudaokou is one of the busiest area in Beijing because of a lot of schools in the area both local and international. It’s near BLCU, Beida, Tsinghua University, as well as a film academy just across BLCU. With lots of students wanting to live nearby, the prices of apartments get steeper by the year. We were lucky to get an apartment in Hua Qing Jia Yuan with the help of our friend M. It was a last minute request but the apartment was good enough, quite comfortable especially my favorite couch!

Hua Qing Jia Yuan, a apartment compound is children friendly though our building is isolated on the Tsinghua Science Park side. Going to Lotus Supermarket is a bit of a drag since you need to cross the street twice because it’s diagonal to our building. Crossing the big street can consume 3-4 minutes of my supposed walking time (this was when I was still not lazy to walk). When I timed myself, walking from our apartment to BLCU would take about 20 minutes! I’ve improved from first few trials of 30 minutes.
I managed to have taken pictures before we had ransacked the place into a total mess (We’re no bunch of OC people unfortunately).

Our rent fee was 4000rmb a month. Originally, we were only 3 but another friend joined us so 4 of us shared the apartment. If I had been domesticated, I would have made used of the kitchen effectively but all I can cook is some fried dumplings, canned tuna with egg, and some pasta. Well, microwave was better!

Hua Qing Jia Yuan vicinity has a Mcdonalds, Cafe Bro, KFC, supermarket, Samuel and Kevin, Baleno, cellphones stores, Mr. Pizza, Pizza Hut, Yong He Da Wang, Giordano, etc.

Is it along Wang Zhuang Lu? The street near the Xi Jiao Hotel? My friend has an apartment there too, his house looks cozy though, I must see yours! hahaha

Hi neighbor!
We love HQJY too — it’s a great complex with nice amenities and very convenient. I think we’re paying a little too much for our apartment, but oh well. The price is certainly better than Boston where my wife and I are originally from.

Yup, a bit steep, can’t imagine how much it would cost to rent now that it’s near the Olympics!

I think the best is Hua Qing Jia Yuan than the Fu Xi Men (not sure if fu xi men is right). Hua Qing has more shops and is more alive than the other. Plus its convenient to the train and also buses. The other side is quieter if you want
have fun in Beijing!

Hi!
I’m planning to go to BLCU from September to January, and I was wondering if you know the conditions of living on campus. There aren’t exactly pictures of the rooms and such.

I am so glad you posted this I have bee hunting for pictures of HQJY. I will be living here when I arrive for my studies at the CIPE in May and now that I know what they look like I am that much more excited to go. I can also tell you that I paid a fortune for it too because of the Olympics and the falling America dollar. Oh, well only live once

Hi! Thanks for posting this, I’ve been searching for pictures of accommodations around the area and it’s been difficult to get around some real estate sites.
Would you know how much a 3 bedroom apartment is at HQJY?
Planning to study in Beijing this fall semester
though i’m still torn as to which school i want to apply for. Which has a better chinese program: beita, blcu or tsing hua?
Thanks so much!

pau: sorry late reply…i think living inside the campus is more convenient especially during winter, you won’t be lazy to go to class coz it’s cold!
fiddlestix: yea, nice places in HQJY, just don’t know how much nowadays, some flats are really nice, so it also costs so high!
Jill: hmm actually not sure nowadays, coz it might already increased their prices (every year usually), if the place is really nice, it can reach up to 8-10k for 3 bedroom. My friend’s flat before costs around 8k but really really nice!
Beida is the best since it’s their top University, plus you get to mingle more with locals to practice more Mandarin. BLCU is more fun! haha tsing hua…not so sure, but i think 2nd best among the three.
fall semester is the best, you get to see the best season! goodluck!

Hi,
How many m2 was your appartment, and how many bedrooms?
We are 3 friends living here now, and are paying 8800 rmb per month. I’m just wondering if we are getting ripped off, or if it’s a normal price here.
Live in building 6 by the way

beijing boy:
hey, actually i’m not good with numbers (for the m2) , we rented a 2 room flat. but it really depends. Coz ours wasn’t that much decorated while some has a really good furnishing.
8800rmb for how many rooms? I think every year they increase rent. Bldg 6 is a good spot right? no need to cross the street? Your bldg is along Mcdonalds? Maybe that’s why it’s more expensive.

Thanks beijing girl!
By the way, when’s the best time to look for an apartment for the fall semester? What month will probably have the most vacancies around?
