Crystal Jade Restaurant (beijing)

Author: A room that is fit for a king/queen…
That’s what Crystal Jade offered us for no additional charge since it was the only room that can fit us (we were 15-16 i think). So we enjoyed the luxurious room without boring a hole in our thin pockets!
The service is close to perfect since we were assigned a server who generously given us much attention. The serving of the food is rather small though the price is steep. The restaurant prides itself for the first class Cantonese cuisine. If I want to show off one of the best restaurant to foreign friends, I would probably bring them here.

BLCU Cafeteria food
I miss our cafeteria food in BLCU. Although it might look dirty but it’s cheap and yummy! For students on a budget like myself, my friends and I usually eat in the 2nd floor Cafeteria in BLCU, located near the south entrance gate. It’s always jampacked during lunch hours, but if you get there earlier than 12 noon, you’ll get seats asap. Though we always get there late, we would seat at the first floor (typical canteen food)
We would always choose the two window corner at the right. Ordering rice (0.5 rmb a bowl) then beef and eggs 牛肉鸡蛋 （7rmb a platter), fried pork 炒猪肉 (8 rmb a plate) ， chicken fried rice é¸¡è›‹ç‚’é¥ (4rmb a plate)， thailand chicken å°å›½é¸¡ (9 rmb a plate)， thailand fried pork å°å›½çŒªè‚‰ (9rmb a plate)， lemon chicken æŸ é¸¡è‚‰ (8 rmb a plate).
When we order, three to four people share 2 orders so we get to save on food! That’s the nice thing about cafeteria. Surprisingly, the food is not bad. It’s actually more sumptous than my own cooking (well, i’m not a pro to judge haha). My only complain, their cooking is rather oily (很油泥）!
Paul’s steak and egg
We came upon this homey restaurant one night to try out some Western steaks my friends missed. This restaurant is located along a strip of restaurants like Grandma’s Kitchen, near TGIF. We were kind of lost at first but fortunately, found this small place. Before going there, we reserved seats just to make sure. We heard that their steaks are wondrous but I think the price is a bit steep for the quality. I loved the mashed potatoes more!
Their pancakes were so so, but the maple sauce saved them from mediocrity.
Overall, I think the food is just okay. Kind of reminded me of homestyle meal but served it’s purpose since the atmosphere creates that notion. Read the rest of this entry »
Fusion Korean
Korean BBQ
If you love korean food, this is a must try. They changed the location of the resto..now it’s near the aisle of Jeanswest in Wudaokou district. You should order the 120rmb set (5 kinds of beef)…that’s for 4-5 people already..worth the price! I hate cooking so this restaurant is a plus since you can ask the waitress to cook the meat for you…make sure you don’t go there on a busy hour!
Din Tai Fung
If you’re looking for the best Xia Long Pao in Beijing, you need to try this restaurant!
For those not familiar with Xiao Long Pao — it’s like dumpling but inside the wrap is a burst of succulent sauce. A must try, it has been made famous by Shanghai cuisine. The restaurant actually looks quite nice! The posh atmosphere coupled with high class service will make your experience worth the while although your pocket will become lighter. But you won’t regret eating here!
MinBao Hot Pot
Where do you get free lighter and beer? Hotpot place called MinBao..located in Haidian District. You will have your own mini hotpot utensil while cooking your own meal. First time I tried dipping some peanut sauce with my meal…one unique experience. Plus..after spending around 500 rmb, you’ll get discount coupons for your next visit!
One blopper experience I had though…I burned my hand because the tissue paper caught on fire while I was trying to get the hotpot down. Still, I will come back!
Isshin Japanese Restaurant
Isshin Restaurant is one of the famous Japanese restaurants in Beijing. They have reasonably priced variety of Japanese cuisine, ambiance is quite cozy and mellow. We sat in the traditional Japanese style (took off our shoes and sat on the elevated floor).
You can visit either the branch in Xueyuan Lu,Haidan District (across East gate of BLCU) or in 35 Chengfu Lu north of the traffic light next to Wudaokou subway station Haidan District.
