Beijing Street Food
Beijing has well known street food often seen anywhere. My favorites are baozi and jiaozi which are almost sold in small restaurant they call Chengdu Xiaozhir shops. Baozi are like starchy bread with stuffings inside while the Jiaozi are dumplings, you usually choose the ones with vegetable stuffings or meat stuffings. When I walk by the small restaurants, I usually see stalls upfront selling those. For about 5 rmb, you get more than 10pcs per pack of Jiaozi. Although they may seem oily, (yes, they are oily for my taste), but they fill my appetite for some quick snack.
But interestingly, I saw some other street food usually sold in high foot traffic sidewalks. Like this…

It’s usually a morning snack. This crunchy snack is quick interesting to look at when being made. Imagine the guy/lady usually pour a scoopful of batter then form a crepe skin…then put a crunchy something inside, plus some egg or la jiang (hot sauce) if you prefer..then wala! A chinese style crepe!
It’s not all they have
I also tried eating those bread stuffing which is yummy! It’s seem to have cheese inside..beef stuffing with cheese but it’s so oily but definitely worth trying even if my cholesterol gets an all time high.
There is also a pizza type snack which was blogged by That’s BJ magazine
Plus Yang rouo chwar (Lamb bbq) which needs to have another article to write my experience about it!
