PostHeaderIcon Peppar farm (bar)

This is where I spent my New Year’s Eve, unfortunately, it was not so glamorous because in China, they have their own Chinese New year based on the Chinese calendar.

One branch of Pepper farm is located near our vicinity (Wodaokou). The place looks inviting but doesn’t have huge lighted signs. It’s kind of a lounge place rather than a dance club. The bartenders have occasional bartending shows where ladies can have free drinks of what they made in the show.

PostHeaderIcon Tokugawa japanese feast

One day, when my friends and I decided to be gluttons for a night, we went to a Japanese restaurant where they have ORDER ALL YOU CAN feast. Since we reserved early, we got to see the sets available for order. You can choose from A, B, C type (68, 78, 98 rmb respectively if it’s still the same). The menu is very clear which you can order if you chose a cheaper set. We wanted to try everything but we only chose the ones we think is worth our money! At first, the service is quite slow but as the orders came in, we filled our stomachs with as much as we could stuff in.

The salmon seems fresh but the downside of this kind of buffet, no desserts! In the end, I was sick of sashimi (ok, just for the night) but I get to finish another round of sukiyaki! Yummy!

PostHeaderIcon Acrobatics in China

Once, before school began last school year, we went to some show in Red Theater.

It was supposed to be about shaolin monks, like a play about kungfu. Didn’t quite understand what the story was but the moral story seems to be about love, honor, etc! It was quite interesting, took a few shots eventhough we were not allowed to take pictures!

PostHeaderIcon Alameda Beijing

Alameda, Alameda, Alameda…I dream of Alameda, where I can dine leisurely during lunch hours (because they offer lunch sets priced at around 60rmb, perfect for students like us!).

This restaurant is one of the best I tried, it never fails to satisfy me. Voted as “restaurant of the year” and “best business lunch”, this Brazilian fine dining restaurant has quality service coupled with quality food!

Their menus change daily (not all though) and there are also exciting choices for vegetarians too!

Here’s a sample of their menu!

I love their mashed potatoes and pork fillet with honey and grain mustard! Plus their escalope mignon is must try…so moist and tender..yummm!

PostHeaderIcon Jiu Zhai Gou , Chengdu

Jiu Zhai Gou Valley is said that this place was formed after an earthquake happened long before. The beautiful lakes were a product of a natural disaster.

Jiuzhaigou

According to chinatravelguide, “Jiuzhaigou Valley is located in Nanping County, 450 kilometers (about 280 miles) to the north of Chengdu City. Its name is due to the existence of nine stockaded villages of Tibetan origin, and it is always regarded as a holy mountain and watercourse by the Tibetan people.”

It was a long ride from the city Chengdu. We stayed in 3-4 hotels if I remember correctly. The first one was good but as you go nearer to Jiu Zhai Gou, the quality of the hotels deteriorate.

Our third day, we reach the valley and enjoyed a whole day there. This is such a marvel..it was like heaven on earth. The beauty of nature is beyond words to describe. You can just imagine nature at it’s finest…the whole scenery..breathtaking, wonderful!

The only downside of it is the hotels you will stay in is overly expensive but not worth it. I saw one nice hotel, Sheraton, but we weren’t able to stay there because we took a travel package tour. Since there are few hotels available because of the proximity from the city, you will have to bear and sacrifice for the sake of the beautiful sights.

For the food, if you’re a vegetarian, you’ll love the variety of vegetable meals they serve. The comfort room (WC) was not at all comfortable. For girls, it means squatting if you can bare to see some unsightly things.

But overall, I still enjoyed the trip, it was all worth it!

PostHeaderIcon Bellagio

If you’re into Taiwanese food, this restaurant is a must try! Great ambiance, good service, and especially cool desserts! Bellagio was voted “best late night dining” in 2006 Reader Restaurant Awards, this is worth trying! Similar to its sister restaurant La Paleta, the service personnel sport a boyish clean type haircut (mostly women) which I think is their signature look.
